So as you all know we are continuously working to decrease the cost of good quality filament to $10 per KG.
Here is our latest.
When running a production process sometimes things go wrong. A spool can be wound crooked, when transtioning from white to black you have varying gray. All of this material is printable but is less than desirable. Like a weird shaped apple. You can still eat it. But it looks off.
Generally this material would be run through our large print farms. But that adds additional labor before the spool is reprocessed. The best thing to do to save cost is to sell the wonky item. So we are going to do that.
Introducing Tangled Wonk. This is filament that is out of spec for minor cosmetic reasons but is still printable. We will be releasing it as is comes available.
Examples of Angled Wonk:
Spooled a bit crooked
Spooled with a bit too much material (Cup Overfloweth type thing)
Transition Colors (The gray between white and black)
Slightly underspooled (950grams rather than 1KG. Never more than 50G)
This material might require some special handling. But it will all be printable.
We will never include
Filament with bad diameters.
Blobs on the filament
Transistion between materials (From PLA to PETG. That would jam your machine)
Angled Wonk will also be shipped on reused spools when possible. And it will cost less than regular materials.
There is not a lot of material that falls into this category so it will come and go. But we will make it available as it goes by. That way you can get some good material to just print functional parts or parts to be painted and we can continue to make our operation more efficent to drive down the cost of regular filament.
Thanks everyone for helping with the Tangled Mission of driving the cost of filament down to $10 per KG.
I got my first order of hobbiest black and there were no guidelines for printing. I'm assuming 210, 60 bed but it's not wanting to stick.
I usually work with PETG
I have an ender 5 plus, direct drive, g10 bed (also PEI sheet, they are swappable and I run pid_calibrate fur the temps I'm planning to use.)
One of your videos you said this was more like PLA+ than PLA
Would be nice if you built an FAQ page for those of us new to 3d printing.
@Gabe,
After reading your post, I can't resist nicknaming you Willy [Wonky and the Filament Factory]. 😁
How do we know when the Wonky filament is available?
Will there be gold wrappers in any of them? 😉
Any word on when you'll ship to Canada? I was here for launch day a while back and was super excited to be one of the first to put in an order, only to find out I couldn't complete check-out because I wasn't in USA. Huge fan, 110% support your mission, just disappointed for now, lol.
