4KG Filament Delay Update

Hey Guys,

Quick Note. In case we don't post over here we update on Tangled nearly every week on the podcast here. So that can sometimes outrun us and go into more detail.

Now into the stuff that matters.

Short story: We are still waiting on parts for the extruder for Tangled.

The extruder that we use a chinese machine. But they have been on a long Holiday (chinese new year until about 2 weeks ago)

They are expected to ship our parts as soon as today when this post is published. That means that we should be up and running again in about 2 weeks. which means your orders will ship in about 3 weeks. If all goes well.

When the parts arrive really all we have to do is plug them in and start up the machine. It is cleaned, prepped and ready to jump as soon as they arrive.

Now we are kind of doom-sayers over here. So here is the plan if something else go wrong.

Plan B:

We are getting in another extruder to commit to Tangled. This will both give us redundancy and let us scale more, which we need to do. It also helps with getting PETG into production sooner which will lower the cost for all of you.

That extruder will not be in for another month at the best. Still nailing down the exact supplier.

Plan D:

We are working with some other filament manufacturers that are interested in joining the tangled project. So we may outsource some of the work to the them if we get in a hard spot. But it has to make fiscal sense. Tangled is a "break even project" but it can't turn into a "money losing project." If that happens then we have to kill it. We are not running a startup playbook, we are running an efficiency playbook.

Conclusion

As always. This was not meant to be a preorder campaign. If you would like a refund just lets us know. We are still fulfilling subscriptions using stored up 1 KG spools.

That all being said. We are in good position. We are on track to have another price cut go into effect in a couple of months after we are able to run these 4KGs for a minute. And we are closing deals for material that will let us reduce the cost even further. Even with this delay we think we are still on track for the masterplan to hit $10/KG made in the USA early next spring if not sooner.

Thank you all for your support. And, as always let us know if there are any problems.
